HERE IS THE RESIDENT LETTER:
You are 100% on point – we must take action. However,
how best to proceed? I do like your suggestion that
we hold a residents meeting and discuss what can be
done to stop the decay and turn things around at
Wedgefield. Would people come? How to notify them?
We need a new Board and some forward thinking people
to take charge. I just can’t believe that people would
let things continue as they are at present – our homes are,
for most of us, our biggest investment.
The Wedgefield Examiner will respond
later. Life has
later. Life has
been busy today, but this is important. To start, if you
have an interest in calling a resident meeting, email the
blog. The idea of calling a resident meeting to talk
about how we might save all the assets of
Wedgefield isn't anarchy, but may be a path to saving
Wedgefield, when your board doesn't even want to
hear your thoughts.
NEW - AUGUST 2: THE WEDGEFIELD EXAMINER
ANSWERS THE RESIDENT:
First, your board should be interested enough in the
best interests of Wedgefield, to organize a meeting,
discuss resident concerns, organize temporary sub
committees of the residents, to research their plans,
and present them to the board, for consideration, and
possible presentation to the community, and board. This
board's governance has brought this community to the
status of a crumbled island, that no one wants to buy
entrance (real estate) to. They have dismantled our
governing documents, sanctioned by a chain of often
disreputable attorneys hired by them to suit their
interpretation of the law, and their agenda.
Despite that, residents can, and in the past, have
organized, held large open meetings, etc, for the
good of Wedgefield. What resulted? High attendance,
and the organization of voting blocks, that brought
record high numbers to the annual meeting votes on
candidates - board selection, and by-law amendments.
It is through the establishment of decent board
members, whose interests lie purely in the best interests
of Wedgefield, and legal, ethical interpretation, rather
than manipulation, of our governing documents, that
we can restore Wedgefield. For instance, while the
last group was active, a WPA standing board member,
also treasurer who opposed dredging, put forth 4 or
5 by-law amendments that stifled any genuine board's
future ability to operate in a financial capacity, in the
best interests of Wedgefield. The organized voting
block educated, sought out more voters, and defeated
the by-law changes, and the treasurer resigned from
the board the following morning, apparently because
he couldn't operate unless it was his way, or the
highway.
With that said, here is how a interested group could
get started.
*A few interested residents get together to quickly
form a steering committee
-name the group, and the mission statement
-plan a meeting & the substantive talking points
-establish a meeting date, and fill out forms at the
WPA office to use the office as a site
-establish a contact list to get the word out
#contact Wedgefield clubs, asking to have
announcement dispersed to membership
#form email contact list from amongst steering
committee contacts
#contact this blog, and The Wedgefield Times
and request that a announcement be put
up.
#write a editorial to all local newspapers,
discussing why such a meeting must be
called, and who to contact.
The list goes on, but there is little time. We must have
people willing to submit their name to run for election.
We are in a great spot now, because rather than 3 board
seats - this year there are four open seats. If history
repeats itself, three of the current board members who
seats become open - will run again, reinstating no change,
and more of the current decay, and division in our
Wedgefield. SO IN THE MOMENT BEFORE A MEETING,
4-5 GOOD MEMBERS WHO WANT CHANGE, MUST
SUBMIT THEIR NAMES TO RUN FOR BOARD. THE
CUTOFF DATE FOR THE SUBMISSION OF NOMINEES
IS AUGUST 17TH. PICK UP YOUR APPLICATION AT
THE WPA OFFICE, OR DOWNLOAD IT FROM THEIR
WEBSITE.
That is what it takes, in my not so humble view. It can
be done, it has been done, but it takes a focused
commitment to make things better, and more
importantly - COURAGE, AND COMMON GOAL.
Before I end, to let you know in advance, incase you
write and tell me our dirty business shouldn't be
broadcast into the larger community - it is in every lying
real estate add anyway, when potential buyers drive
through here, and see the mess Wedgefield is.
