I helped on a project today, and posted the following on The Wedgefield Support Group Facebook page. I thought it was worth sharing here.
"Wedgefield residents, today you just have to smile about what Mitch Thompkins is doing in Wedgefield. Yesterday, as I came down Wedgefield Rd into the association, I noticed with delight that the ditches along the road bordering the golf course, were being weed whipped, and mowed. It was quite an improvement! I attended Tompkins golf course meeting at the Baptist church about a week ago. He is enthusiastic, wants to succeed in making our golf course, pool, Manor/Plantation House prosper again. Today, I went to the Manor/Plantation House to help clean up a little. The Tompkins allowed use of the facility for Candidate Night, on the 19th, free of charge. Some costly repairs to ceiling and floor had been made, but it has not reached "ready to open" status yet. The Tompkins are sharing this facility for all residents. Some might have said that it was too soon. Not Mitch and his family. He said I have to do a little cleaning, but yes, use it. A team offered to help get it transitional ready, and open to our residents. Eight of your neighbors and fellow residents arrived with cleaners and a few brooms and rags. First, you couldn't help but notice that he had a crew power washing outside. Inside, you met his commitment, his wife, daughter, and yes Mitch himself, preparing to let you get an early sneak peak. The Thompkin's family was working for you, side by side with some of the residents. Who took the dirtiest jobs? They did. As we left, some of us walked over to the pool. The deck and fencing are scrubbed, and as we talked to a worker, there are plans to get to that pool. I'm no one in the scope of things here, just one resident, but we all need this to work for a beautiful Wedgefield. Won't you consider taking a membership - golf, pool, or social, and help keep the momentum going? Mitch appears to be vested in making it work for the benefit of the place we call home. If you see him, or his family, back it up with a thank you, and let him know that you'll be supporting his efforts with a membership. In the meantime, attend Candidate Night on Thursday, October 19, at the Manor/Plantation House, and take a peak at what is to come."
