HIGHLIGHTS OF THE JUNE 21 WPA BOARD MEETING

The Wedgefield Examiner provides the following highlights of the meeting to the best of my ability.  I can't send you to the tape of the meeting because your board member's no longer provide them - afraid of verification their own words?

Eight of the nine board members were present.  Anderson was absent.  Approximately 30 people attended.

HIGHLIGHTS:
* President's Report:  Walton reported that it was time to start planning for the annual meeting.  Shirley Peterson will serve as the Nominating Chair.  He expressed concern about youth driving golf carts dangerously, and hoped that something tragic would not happen as a result.

*Secretary's Report:  Cline stated the Internet hook up with Spectrum has been completed.  Corrections necessary to move to the next step of the resident phone book development have been completed.  The annual meeting will be held at the Presbyterian Church on November 18th 2017.

*Treasurer's Report:   Phillips - The total in reserves is $447,981.24.  During the month of May $7,950 was transferred to operating from the emergency reserve to pay JC Landscaping.

*Finance Report:  Phillips - June 1 a letter was sent to delinquent  accounts.  There are 44 for 2017, and 12 from prior years.

*Drainage: - President Walton - There are problems on Lots 460 & 461.  Drainage is working with ARC to resolve.

*Water Amenities: - John Walton: JC Landscaping has completed work on the landing road.  More may be need to be done after the season.  The landing key cards have been ordered.  Dredging: - Reports are in on the specs for dredging.  Bidders are being sought.  There will be a meeting for the whole community once the figures are in.  Repair is required on the dikes on the spoil site.

*Grounds: - McMillin:  Some of the small American flag decorations were stolen.  Posts around the circle were knocked down again.  Committee will repair.

*Old Business: - Johnson had a second reading to change the policy manual language regarding permits and small tree specs.  There was quite a bit of discussion, and it turned out to be a first reading because language was changed again at the board table.

*New Business:  Garrison had a reading on the policy manual - Section 8, number 7.03.05, regarding the distribution from payments generated from liens and foreclosure, and who would determine the accounts they were deposited in.

Garrison also wanted a motion made to allow discussion of the hiring of another person for the office to work with our accounts.  A motion was made and seconded.  Is it fair for one person to have to be that multi talented?  If considered the person would be a contract employee, maybe one day a week - a few hours - when the office is closed.  It would also add another person/layer to the accounting.  Currently, the same accountant working throughout the year, is also doing the year end accounting.  More to follow in a separate article.

John Walton would like the board to consider a credit card.  He had to have Phillips use her pay pal account to order the landing cards because we don't have a credit card.  He stated board members should not have to use their private accounts to get work done.  It was discussed that this would require a change of policy.  More to follow in the future.

*Resident Comments:
Butch thanked everyone for their help, and said there would be another mowing meeting this Thursday at 6:00PM.

There were several questions, and comments regarding the pending purchase of the golf course.  Seems that it will close in August, but there is a 30 out on the contract.  The buyer has not been identified.

Someone questioned lot mowing.  McMillin explained 4 mowings per year paid for by the owner.  There was a back and forth discussion, and McMillin stated "I don't go out and patrol and look for issues."

A lot of time was spent on speeding in the association.  Some called for speed bumps, etc.  This discussion took considerable time.

That's the highlights!  Articles will follow regarding some of the notes.
